Zilhajj crescent sighted, Eid-ul-Azha on 17th November
The Zilhajj moon has been sighted in the country and tomorrow it would be 1st Zilhajj while Eid-ul-Azha would be celebrated with religious zeal and zest on 17th of November this year, Dunya News reported on Sunday. The meeting of Central Ruat-e-Hilal Committee to sight the moon of the new month was held in Islamabad today that was chaired by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman whereas the meetings of the zonal committees were held in other cities of the country. Due to clear atmospheric conditions the crescent of the new month was sighted in many different parts of the country. It is to be remembered that the Zilhajj moon was sighted yesterday in Saudi Arabia according to which Hajj would be offered on 15th November, 2010 while Eid-ul-Azha would be celebrated on 16th November in Saudi Arabia. Earlier Saudi Arabia's high court declared 15th November 2010 the start of hajj, the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Islam's holy sites.The kingdom's official news agency said that the court confirmed the sighting of the new moon on Saturday. According to the lunar calendar, hajj begins nine days into the 12th month of the year, making the start 15th November this year in the Gregorian calendar. The annual Islamic pilgrimage draws millions of worshippers, making it the largest yearly gathering of people in the world. The event focuses on Mecca, Islam's holiest site and the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad.The Central Ruat-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan Presided by Mufti Munib ur Rehman will have a meeting today. The weather department has predicted that moon will be sighted today.
