Bill to convert PIA into private limited company approved
PML-N, PPP, JI backed the Bill however ANP walked out of the Assembly as a symbol of protest
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Assembly (NA) on Monday approved the bill to convert the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Company into a private limited company, reported Dunya News.
Federal Minister Zahid Hamid introduced the Bill onto the floor of the House. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) supported the Bill, however Awami National Party (ANP) opposed the Bill and walked out of the Assembly during the proceedings.
Earlier, PPP agreed to endorse the Bill on the condition that the government releases all the employees of PIA that arrested against the privatisation of the institution and also to nullify the cases registered against them.
Senator Ilyas Bilour of the ANP stated that his party’s consent was not taken in regards to the Bill.
