12 dead, 24 injured as passenger bus rams into trailer in Mianwali

Police said the accident was caused when driver of the speeding coach lost control.

MIANWALI (Web Desk) - At least 12 people were killed and 24 others injured when a passenger bus hit into a trailer in eastern Pakistan on Wednesday.

The ill-fated bus collided with the trailer coming from opposite direction on a major highway in the central part of the country s east Punjab province.

The coach, which was heading toward Rawalpindi district from Layyah district, overturned after the collision on MM Road near Chandni Chowk in Mianwali which resulted in the large number of casualties.

The injured people, including women and children, were shifted to a nearby hospital, where several of them are said to be in critical condition.

Nine dead bodies were shifted to Hafiz Wala and four were sent to district headquarters hospital.

Police said the accident was caused when driver of the speeding coach lost control of the vehicle and hit into the trailer.

Road accidents frequently happen in Pakistan due to poorly maintained roads, violation of road safety rules and reckless driving. Traffic police officials say 90 percent accidents in the country are caused merely by human error.
