Crime dramatizations: LHC seeks programs list from PEMRA in 15 days
The claimant urged the court to impose ban on re-enactment shows.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday sought list of programs dramatizing criminal activities from Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
Chief Justice of LHC Ijaz-ul-Hassan heard the petition filed by Ishtiaq Chaudhry Advocate. During the hearing, the plaintiff’s counsel told the court that dramatization of offenses is becoming reason of increasing heinous crimes in the society.
He said the children are attracting towards crimes after watching them while such programs are also contradicting PEMRA rules and regulations.
The claimant further urged the court to impose ban on re-enactment shows.
The court remarked that government’s stance over the matter has already been received however, the decision will be taken after analyzing the both petitions.
Subsequently, the judge sought programs list within 15 days from PEMRA.
Earlier, Punjab Assembly had approved the resolution regarding ban on dramatization of crimes and showing them on TV. All the members stood united against the crimes shown on TV channels.
Punjab Assembly had asked federal government to take corrective measures in this context.
