Pakistan Day celebrations at UN, diplomats from 140 countries participated

For the first time in the history, Pakistan Day celebrations were held at the United Nations.

NEW York (Dunya News) - For the first time in the history, Pakistan Day celebrations were held at the General Assembly hall of the United Nations. Diplomats from 140 countries, UN officials, representatives of civil society, media and members of the Pakistani diaspora were present on the occasion.

A concert titled "Sufi Night: Music of Peace" was held to mark Pakistan s National Day under the theme of global peace and harmony, with the renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan presenting his famous songs.

Pakistan ambassador to the UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi, while talking the Dunya News said that she is very proud at the presentation of Pakistani culture at the United Nation. She further said that representatives from 140 countries came to listen our music.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon congratulated the government and people of Pakistan on Pakistan s National Day.

Ban Ki-moon in his message said: “I am sorry to be out of the country because I am missing what is sure to be a truly unforgettable concert. I extend my warmest welcome to tonight’s performers and my gratitude to Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi and the Mission of Pakistan for hosting. What a wonderful way to celebrate Pakistan’s National Day! I send my warmest congratulation to the people and Government of Pakistan on this auspicious occasion”.
