Wapda will not be privatized if employees work honestly: Khawaja Asif

Khawaja Asif said that government is taking every possible step to overcome electricity crisis.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Defence Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday has assured that no privatization will be done if employees work efficiently.

Addressing a ceremony of Wapda (Water and Power Development Authority) Hydro Electric Union in Lahore, Khawaja Asif said that government is taking every possible step to overcome electricity crisis.

He said that the representatives have to stop power theft in the country and directed to take stern action against the culprits.

The minister said that if employees work with enthusiasm and honesty then there will be no need of privatizing the department. He said that the incumbent authorities only want to relief the nation, therefore, he requested to make Wapda free of corruption.

Earlier, Wapda delegation met Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and withdrew their call for strike as PM took notice of the legitimate demands of the employees.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali and Chairman Privatization Committee Muhammad Zubair.

PM ordered the relevant officials to examine the legitimate demands of the Wapda employees and present a details report to him on the subject.
