Jahangir Tareen will contend for the seat against Baloch on December 23

LODHRAN (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will boast political standing in Lodhran making last ditch efforts for NA-154 by-elections, Dunya News reported Monday.

The ruling party and the opposition will rally today for NA-154 by-election the result of which was annulled by election tribunal in August. PML-N’s then elected candidate, Siddique Baloch was declared ineligible for possessing fake academic credentials.

PTI’s secretary general Jahangir Tareen will contend for the seat against Baloch on December 23.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed polling preparation ahead of the big day. Sources privy to the commission have said that a letter was written to the secretary water and power seeking uninterrupted power supply on December 23.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Hamza Shahbaz and PTI leader Imran Khan will address the respective rallies today. Khan had reached Lodhran earlier to participate in the election campaign led by Tareen.

Railways Phatak, Permit Chowk and Dakhana Chowk saw flocks of supporters on Khan’s arrival. However, the opposition party chief left without delivering address owing to security concerns.

The campaigning will end tonight by 12 am, a day before the polling. As many as twenty candidates are contesting the by-polls. Out of the total, number of independent candidates is twelve while eight are representing different political parties.

Pakistan Army has been given the responsibility of carrying out fair and transparent polling.
