KARACHI (Dunya News) – Matter of Rangers’ extension in special powers in Sindh’s metropolitan has further been delayed as the Sindh Assembly marks Private Members Day on Tuesday.

The agenda of today’s session does not include Rangers’ matter.

On December 14, opposition parties in the Sindh Assembly protested against the government for alleged delay in moving a resolution on purpose.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Functional (PML-F) demonstrated protest in the assembly. Sindh Education Minister Nisar Khuhro and Nusrat Sehar Abbas exchanged hot words over the issue.

Strangely, Muttahida Qaumi Movement kept silent amid the ruckus and did not interfere. However, after the session Opposition Leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan gave clarifications for not maintaining a clear stance in the assembly. While talking to the media, he said that the Speaker barred him from addressing the participants. He could not talk to the members because as he was not allowed to, he added.

Earlier in the day on Monday, Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) parliamentary committee decided to not move a resolution in the Sindh regarding Rangers special powers in Karachi targeted operation.

The parliamentary committee convened a meeting to finalise PPP’s course-of-action in the issue.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah announced to lodge protest in the assembly against federation’s attitude towards Rangers issue.

On December 11, the assembly avoided discussion on the issue and moved a resolution in remembrance of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) late leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

The assembly has been convening sessions since past week however, Rangers’ issue is nowhere near to solution.

Separately, Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah has repeatedly assured that there is no tiff with the Rangers and the issue would be resolved soon. However, nothing seems to be happening anytime soon.

A targeted operation was launched in Karachi in September 2013 against militants, criminals and armed wings of political parties. MQM has severely criticised the offensive in the past and alleged that it is a part of  minus one formula .

On the other hand, PPP had maintained a rather welcoming response towards federation s move but the party seems to be puzzled now after Zardari s close confidant and former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain was nabbed under terror charges.
