Prominent journalist Wajahat S Khan joins Team Dunya as Head of National Security Desk

Dunya News

Wajahat S Khan is a prominent name when it comes to covering conflict and security

We are proud to announce that Wajahat S. Khan has joined Dunya Media Group as its Chief National Security Correspondent. Khan, 36, is one of Pakistan’s only multimedia journalists and will be stationed in Islamabad to lead Dunya s National Security Desk to cover national and regional security and conflict developments. Recently, Khan has been reporting and producing from Islamabad for NBC News, America’s largest news network, and also assists The Times of London with editorial coverage of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Recently nominated as the first Pakistani Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for the Press, Politics and Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Khan is also an Asia Society Global Leader and a Transparency International Young Journalist Fellow. He has lectured at Harvard, Mount Holyoke, Northeastern, the National Defense University of Islamabad and the Lahore University of Management Sciences.

Previously, Khan has reported for CNN and contributes regularly to the BBC. He has helped launch and reported and anchored for Pakistan’s primary networks, Geo and Dawn News. In print, he has edited and corresponded for Pakistan s major dailies and periodicals - Dawn, The News, The Express Tribune, The Friday Times and The Herald. Khan also comments for India Today, India s largest weekly. He has been frequently quoted by the Guardian, the Independent, the New York Times and the Washington Post.

With an interest in South Asia’s security, Khan is the only Pakistani reporter to have been embedded with over 30 frontline units of the Pakistani military as well as US/NATO/ISAF forces in Afghanistan. He is also the first broadcaster from Pakistan to produce an investigative series from across the ‘divide’ in India and the first and only independent television documentary series on the Pakistani military.

Known for his tough, investigative reporting, Khan has pioneered the study and use of social media in Pakistani broadcast, empowering his audiences. He has Political Science & History majors from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor – where he also edited and reported for the university paper, The Michigan Daily - and has recently founded the Bureau of Investigative Reporting, a not-for-profit transparency reporting collective.
