Justice Jawad S Khawaja said there is no proper system to monitor NGOs' funding.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Friday) summoned details of national and international funding to all the non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Dunya News reported.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja heard a case pertaining to registration and funding of NGOs.
During case hearing, Attorney General Salman Butt informed court that the government is making efforts regarding monitoring of NGOs. Forensic audit of suspicious NGOs will be conducted.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that NGOs are receiving national funds beside the international funding. Countering terrorist funding was part of the National Action Plan (NAP) but no progress has been made in the last six months.
He said the government should declare that NAP was just a paper work if it cannot implement it in letter and spirit.
The SC judge further remarked there is no system to monitor NGOs` funding. We must look into this matter if the country is in state of war.
He said terrorists will die themselves if funding to suspicious NGOs is stopped.
Supreme Court summoned all the details of national and international funding to NGOs across Pakistan and adjourned the case hearing till July 22.
