Fake degrees: Assessment of lawmakers degrees underway

The process of degrees evaluation has been kicked off as Punjab and Peshawar Universities have received as many as 313 BA degrees of the MPAs and MNAs on Thursday. The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to get the degrees of all the members assessed by the concerned universities after a dozen are disqualified by the court for having fake BA degrees. The Punjab University spokesperson told Dunya News that Higher Education Commission sent some 313 degrees to the varsity which would be returned after the authenticity is appraised. Peshawar University controller Iftikhar Hussain, while talking to Dunya News, said that some 105 degrees of the Khyber Pakhtumkhwa assembly has been received for evaluation. It merits to mention that so far as many as 14 parliamentarians belonging to different mainstream political parties have been disqualified during the current political tenure, with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz at the top. According to data available, out of 14 parliamentarians disqualified for holding fake degrees include seven from PML-N, four from Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and three from Pakistan People's Party. Courts should give 10-yr sentence to fake degree holders: Sher Afgan Former federal minister Sher Afgan Niazi, while talking to Dunya News, said that the fake degree holders be given 10-year sentence with 80 lashes each. He stated that action should be taken against Balochistan CM Aslam Raisani. He called upon the Supreme Court to forward the cases against fake degree holders to sessions court with the directives to convict the cheats.
