15 people injured as strong earthquake jolts northern Pakistan

At first, the tremors were felt at 2:59 am in Islamabad and different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - More than twenty mud houses collapsed and at least 15 people sustained injuries as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake and two aftershocks hit northern region of Pakistan, including capital city of Islamabad on Friday morning, Dunya News reported.

Strong tremors jolted Islamabad, Mansehra, Murree, Abbottabad, Swat, Haripur, Malakand, Nowshehra, Shangla Hill, Battagram, Rawalpindi and adjoining areas.

The duration of the quake was around three to five seconds and its epicenter was Allai, 51 kilometers of Mansehra at the depth of 32 kilometers.

Pakistan Meteorological Department gave details of the earthquake and its aftershocks:

Pakistan is frequently struck by earthquakes. In September 2013, a 7.7-magnitude quake hit the province of Balochistan, killing at least 376 people.

It was also hit by a 7.6-magnitude quake on October 8, 2005 that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in Azad Kashmir.
