Sindh Assembly approves Local Government Amendment Bill 2015

The amended bill has divided Union Council (UC) and Union Committee into wards
KARACHI (Dunya News) -- According to the new bill, local parties election panel system has been abolished. The citizens will have direct representation in the election system.
The amended bill has divided Union Council (UC) and Union Committee into wards.
According to the bill, the right to formation of new constituency will rest with Election Commission.
UCs, Union Committees and Ward will de-limit according to revenue block under their respective Tehsils.
Chairman and Vice-Chairman will be joint candidates. 4 General Council members will be appointed on the basis of Council and Union Committee.
Women, labour and non-Muslim candidates’ constituency will consist of UC and Union Committee.
Women and non-Muslim candidates will have representation of 22 and 5 percent respectively .
The Election Commission Wards’ distribution will be according to the census block and population census of 1998.
The bill was approved by joint efforts of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and ruling Pakistan People s Party (PPP), however a clash of interests arose when MQM opposed PPP on Sindh Insurance of Public Property Bill 2015.
After the disagreement, MQM and PPP discussed on presenting the bill but PPP ignored the reservations of the former and passed the bill anyway.
After the conference, Sindh Minister for Prisons Manzoor Wasan told the media that meaning of the talks lied in between the lines.
He dismissed the notion of governor rule in Sindh and termed the rumors as baseless.
