Persistent shortage of petrol irks motorists

Government was unable to anticipate demand of petroleum for January, admits Minister Petroleum.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Shortage of petrol continued on the fourth day in various areas of Punjab including Lahore whereas Federal Minster Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has assured that situation will improve by Sunday.

Deficit of petrol at petrol pumps has led cars and motorbikes to wait in long queues impeding transportation.

Demand of petrol per day in the provincial capital is 2.5 million liters whereas the supply is meager 0.4 million liters.

80 percent of the petrol stations were closed. According to the market sources, financial constraints on PSO led to shortage of fuel while sources of PSO revealed that they were facing difficulty in importing fuel due to lack of adequate finances.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi admitted that government was unable to anticipate demand of petroleum for the month of January.

Ministry of Finance issued Rs 70.5 billion to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and the officials now assured that the supply of petrol would improve by Saturday or Sunday.
