Government decides to mitigate MQM and JUI doubts

The government was hoping to reach unanimous decision regarding the amendments
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government on Monday has decided to alleviate reservations in relation to amendments in the constitution by forming a joint legal team. These reservations were expressed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). This team will focus on incorporating JUI-F’s amendments in the Army Act until January 6 (Tuesday).
According to the sources, a joint legal team of JUI-F and the government has been formed to mitigate reservations expressed by Maulana Fazul-ur-Rehman. The government’s legal team will be headed by barrister Zafarullah while JUI-F’s legal team will be lead by advocate Kamran Murtaza. The government’s legal team has contacted JUI-F’s team for this matter.
According to the sources, the government has also planned to abate the doubts of MQM. It is expected that the definition of a political party is to be incorporated in the draft of the bill as recommended by MQM.
According to this, parties which take part in elections and have an electoral sign will be considered as political parties. No such party will be considered as a political party which has never taken part in any election.
The government was hoping to reach unanimous decision regarding the amendments, but was met with some skepticism by major political parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The bill after being approved by the National Assembly will be sent to the senate.
