Five more die in famine-struck Thar, death toll rises to 268

Zardari's expectant visit expedites repair work of roads, street lights and offices.

THARPARKAR (Dunya News) – Death toll in famine-struck Thar escalated to 268 in 93 days as five more children died on Friday.

The deceased include a 10-day old Rizwana Bajeer of Chachro, a newborn in Kimari village Diplo and an infant in Chandano village in addition to two others.

Locals of Thar have been deprived of wheat assistance as the administration slowed down the distribution of aid whereas 80 families devoid of wheat have not yet been surveyed by the government.

On the other hand, former president and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s expectant visit to Thar led the administration to work day and night to expedite repair of the wrecked roads, broken street lights and dilapidated offices.
