18th Amendment Bill presented in National Assembly
The 18th Amendment Bill has been presented in the National Assembly today for debate. The bill was presented by Constitutional Reforms Committee chairman Raza Rabbani. Addressing the National Assembly session, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that amendment in the Constitution was not an issue of any individual, it was a national matter. He said that he has established balance in the powers of Prime Minister and President. He said, We will be proud to restore 1973 Constitution in its true shape. He said that every ruler tried to strengthen his rule, but powers end at last. He said that approval of 18th Amendment will strengthen democracy and establish balance among institutions. Earlier, the Senate ratified the 18th Amendment Bill. Cabinet members thanked President Zardari to voluntarily transfer powers to the Parliament. Speaker Fahmida Mirza presided over the NA session, while Farooq Naek presided the Senate session. The House Business Advisory Committee has decided to continue the debate over the 18 amend for three days, and decided to approve the amended bill on Friday.
