LHC orders to release Gullu Butt, declares detention illegal

LHC had released Butt earlier on bail but he was detained on the orders of Home Secretary Punjab

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court has declared the detention of Gullu Butt, involved in damaging cars on June 17, illegal and has ordered his immediate release.

Pleading his case today (Friday) before Justice Qasim Khan in LHC, Gullu Butt’s lawyer maintained that Gullu Butt was released by 2-member bench of Lahore High Court but was detained again on the orders of Home Secretary Punjab. He pleaded that the Home Secretary’s act was illegal and unconstitutional. He also said that record regarding Gullu Butt’s detention was also not presented before the court.

Responding to these arguments, Home Department maintained that Gullu Butt’s release could have created law and order situation. Court questioned if the police officers who appreciated Gullu Butt’s actions on June 17 were also detained. Home Department told that a case against the police officer has been registered and legal proceedings against him are underway.

After listening to arguments from both sides, court declared Gullu Butt’s detention as illegal and ordered immediate release.
