Polling staff was not given proper training for using magnetic ink, tell PCSIR officials

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) has revealed some important irregularities that took place in Election 2013. PCSIR says that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officials were unaware of expiry limit of the magnetic ink. It has also revealed that ECP staff was not given training to use this ink.

As administrative irregularities of Election 2013 continue to surface, PCSIR has now revealed that magnetic ink’s validity time was just 4 to 6 hours and the packets that were opened at 8 o’ clock in the morning had already expired by 2 pm. Magnetic ink did not remain useful after getting expired. ECP officials were unaware of the expiry limit of the ink, according to PCSIR officials.

PCSIR has also revealed that polling staff was not trained to use magnetic ink and the Returning Officers (ROs) did not know the difference between magnetic ink and the common ink. 2 packets of magnetic and common ink were sent to all polling stations.
