Islamabad: 24 policemen injured in clash with PAT workers

Authorities have directed police not to use any force against the protesters.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - At least twenty four policemen were injured in clash with the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) at Kural chowk in Islamabad on Monday morning.

According to Dunya News, 13 injured cops have been admitted to District Headquarter Rawalpindi while 11 were shifted to Poly Clinic.

The Interior Ministry has said the police personnel have been ordered not to use any force against the protesters.

The Punjab government has announced a compensation of three hundred thousand rupees each for the police personnel received injuries due to the pelting of stones and baton charge by the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek in Islamabad.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashood has said that workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek have not been arrested anywhere in Punjab.

Qadri s supporters, including a large number of women, managed to breach police cordons to arrive at the Islamabad airport overnight, chanting "Long live Tahir-ul-Qadri" and "revolution, revolution, Islamic revolution".

Surveillance helicopters flew overhead as police fired teargas at the crowd occupying the area outside the airport, an AFP reporter at the scene said..

Television footage showed Qadri s followers armed with sticks and bricks clashing with baton-wielding police.
