The former president seeks lesser time for government to go in appeal for overturning the verdict.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) requesting to grant the permission to leave the country at earliest.

The former president in his petition has pleaded to the court to review its decision of 15 days given to the government to appeal against the decision of removing his name from Exit Control List (ECL). The petition further said that Pervez Musharraf want to visit his ailing mother in Dubai.

Another petition was also submitted to the SCH for the earliest hearing of the case.

A division Bench comprising Justice Irfan Sadiq Khan and Justice Zafar Ahmad Rajpoot heard the petition and admitted for it for hearing.

A division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Tariq will resume the hearing of the petition on Saturday.

Earlier, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday granted one-day exemption to former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf from appearance in the court in judges detention case.

Counsel of Pervez Musharraf submitted his client’s medical certificate to the court and took the stance that the doctors have recommended complete rest to the former president. Special Prosecutor objected to the certificate.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted the former president one-day exemption from appearance and adjourned the hearing until June 27.

Meanwhile, The Special Court reserved its decision regarding abettors of Musharraf’s November 3, 2007 emergency.
The court will announce the decision at 4pm on Friday (today).

On Thursday, the Sindh High Court ordered Pakistan’s government to lift a travel ban on former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in 15 days time, his lawyer said, possibly drawing a line under a raft of legal troubles.

On the other hand, Former president Pervez Musharraf on Thursday wrote to Interior Secretary to remove his name from Exit Control List (ECL).

As per the copy of the letter, it was pleaded while referencing Sindh High Court’s decision that Musharraf’s mother is unwell in Sharjah and that his backbone has a fracture that cannot be cured in Pakistan, therefore he be allowed to leave the country.

The letter says that Sindh High Court has ruled in Musharraf’s favour, adding that Supreme Court’s earlier decision was provisional which stands void after the conclusive decision.

Former president also attached his mother’s medical certificate along with the appeal letter.

Musharraf has been battling several court cases since he returned to Pakistan last year to fight elections, including treason charges for imposing emergency rule in 2007.

"The court has allowed our appeal and ordered to strike down Musharraf’s name from the Exit Control List. The order will be executed after 15 days," lawyer Farogh Naseem told news agency AFP.
The delayed execution of the order "will give time to the government to appeal in a superior court if they so desire", he added.

Musharraf, 70, flew to Karachi in April to undergo medical tests. He has said he wants the travel ban lifted so he can visit his sick mother in Dubai, but many in Pakistan see it as a ruse to flee the country and avoid the litany of criminal cases against him dating back to his 1999-2008 rule.
