Punjab cabinet approves 2014-15 budget proposals

Provincial cabinet has passed the Punjab budget proposals for fiscal year 2014-15.

LAHORE (Dunya News/Web Desk) - A meeting of the cabinet was held here on Friday with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair, during which it passed budget proposals for the next financial year 2014-15.

The meeting was attended by a number of ministers, advisors, chief secretary Punjab, Inspector General Punjab and other key officials.

During the meeting, the Punjab CM approved the budget while declaring it as “balanced”.

He said the budget would provide relief to the public and would enable them to carry out more developmental projects in the province.

According to sources, in Punjab, Rs. 330 billion will be proposed to allocate for development projects, Rs. 35 billion for irrigation system and Rs. 31 billion for power projects.

Special funds have also been allocated to start Metro Bus service in Multan and Faisalabad. About 30-40 percent increase likely to be made in vehicles’ token tax and new registration.

The budget is scheduled to be presented in the Assembly today by Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman.
