PM inaugurates first phase of Nandipur power project

The plant has started electricity production of 100 MW which has been added to the national grid.

GUJRANWALA (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the first phase of the Nandipur Power Project.

The project has a total capacity of 425 megawatts and it would be completed by December this year at a cost of 574 million dollars.

The project has four turbines and after every two months, one unit will become functional adding electricity to the national grid.

The project is being executed by China Don Fang Electric Corporation.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammmad Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif among other prominent personalities were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Nawaz Sharif said development will be carried out in all the provinces on equal basis. Gwadar will be brought at par with other developed cities of the country. A modern airport will be established there besides Gwadar will be made a free port.

Turning to initiatives taken in the energy sector, the Prime Minister said it has been decided to speed up the completion of electricity generation projects particularly in the hydel sector.

He said forty billion rupees have been released for the land acquisition of Diamer Bhasha Dam. Similarly, we have decided to undertake work on Dasu dam. These two projects will add 9,000 MW of electricity to the grid.

Nawaz Sharif said the government is also focusing on infrastructure projects. He said ground-breaking ceremony of Lahore-Karachi motorway project will soon be performed. Fifty-five billion rupees have been released for the land acquisition of this project.

He said every possible effort will be made to complete the project during the current tenure. Similarly, we are upgrading Pakistan Railways and a railway line will be laid between Islamabad and Muzaffarabad.
