Farooq H Naek completes arguments in fifth reference against Asif Ali Zardari.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) Asif Ali Zardari’s attorney Farooq H Naek completed his argument in fifth reference against the former president.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sought more time for counter arguments.

Accountability court judge Mohammed Bashir Ahmed heard the case against Zardari.

Naek argued before the court that National Accountability Bureau was trying to deceive the worthy court.

He alleged ex-accountability chief Saifur Rehman twice got him disembarked from the plane of him being tax defaulter and had put his name on the Exit Control List.

He said all references were baseless, adding that no witness or valid statement against Zardari was available. Naek said his client had to face eight years of imprisonment due to fake cases.

The case was adjourned till April 28.
The references against Zardari include polo ground, SGS, Cotecna, ARY and Ursus tractors. The court had already acquitted other accused in these references.

The accountability court took a suo motu action and reopened five references against Zardari in October, 2013. Earlier, the references were deferred because he enjoyed constitutional immunity during his tenure as President of Pakistan.
Polo ground reference is build upon the construction of a polo ground in PM house. The NAB had declared it illegal and in violation of rights afforded to him.
