Rangers have limited powers in Karachi: DG Rangers
The DG Rangers said criminals should be brought to justice to ensure peace.
KARACHI (Web Desk) - Highlighting the major problems in the metropolis, Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar said that demands tabled prior to launch of targeted operation have not been fulfilled yet, Dunya News reported.
Addressing the inaugural session of Command and Control Centre on Wednesday, Major General Rizwan said that 7,700 Rangers personnel are present in Karachi.
He said the Rangers personnel have limited powers of search and arrest.
He explained that the additional powers given to the paramilitary force after the Karachi law and order suo motu case were just on 'paper.'
Lyari was not the only locality in Karachi with issues, adding there were other areas where the situation was not different from Lyari, he said.
Hu further suggested that illegal mobile SIMs should be blocked to ensure peace in the city.
The DG Rangers stated that weapon licensing process has not been linked with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) as yet.
He said that situation in the city will only improve if all institutions work together.
Major General Rizwan Akhtar said that completion of operation in Karachi is necessary but it will take some time.
