Karachi: Residents suffer as violence in Lyari continues unabated

Panic has gripped Lyari after killing of 16 people in separate violent incident on Wednesday.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Residents of Lyari have suffered the most as violence continues in the area. Business centres and schools remained closed on Thursday due to tense situation in the area.

The residents of Lyari, who are the most affected victims of the recent incident of firing and target killings, protested outside Karachi Press Club. The protesters demanded to take action against criminal elements and restore peace in the area.

The affectees of Lyari gang war and violence reached press club in a form of rally where they staged protest. A large number of women and children were present in the rally.

The participants said that unrest in Lyari has disturbed their lives and homes. They said that their businesses are in crisis while it is difficult for their children to attend their schools.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would arrive in Karachi on Friday to review the law and order situation in the city. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan would accompany him.

The PM would be briefed on law and order situation. The details of action against criminals including target killers and action in this regard would also be discussed during the meetings.

According to the sources, Sindh Chief Secretary would brief Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on law and order situation while DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Ashraf is likely to brief the PM on operation carried out by Rangers.

The sources added that important decisions regarding law and order are expected during the visit of the PM.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has reportedly decided to launch a surgical operation against criminal in different areas of Lyari.

It is to mention here that at least At least 16 people including two women were killed in a series of explosions and exchange of fire between two rival groups in strife-hit Lyari area of Karachi.

According to details, blasts occurred in different areas of Lyari one after the other, killing 16 people and injuring several others. The explosions were followed by intense firing in Chakiwara and Jhatpat market. Around 8-10 grenades were hurled in different areas of Lyari, one of the officials said.

Tension and fear gripped the city soon after the blast while people were forced to stay at homes while business outlets and markets were immediately closed.
