Additional sessions judge among 11 killed in Islamabad court attack
Additional session judge Rafaqat Ahmed Khan Awan was also martyred in the attack.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - At least 11 people including the additional sessions judge were killed while 20 others injured in an attack on district court in Islamabad.
Unknown assailants entered district court in Islamabad’s sector F-8 and resorted to firing while hurled hand grenades, killing 11 people. Additional sessions judge Rafaqat Ahmed Khan Awan was also martyred in the attack.
Fear and chaos gripped the area while firing led to a stampede.
Emergency has been declared in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
The militants also attacked the lawyers’ chamber. According to hospital sources, around half of the injured are in critical condition.
The Rangers personnel and police immediately reached the site and a search operation is underway. There are reports that the militants are still hiding in the court building. All the entry-exit points of the building have been sealed and elite force commandos have also reached the site.
Meanwhile, the rescue teams are shifting the dead and injured to nearby hospital.
