SC orders production of missing persons by Dec 19

The Supreme Court heard the case pertaining to the missing persons of Balochistan on Wednesday.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered that the police and law enforcement agencies should produce missing persons before the court on December 19.

In its short order, the Supreme Court ordered interior secretary to issue notification over the appointment of new or acting Inspector General (IG) of the Frontier Corps (FC) within three days.

A three-member bench of Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case pertaining to the missing persons of Balochistan on Wednesday.

During the course of proceedings, an altercation between Chief Justice and counsel for IG FC Irfan Qadir was reported.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court detached the contempt notice from missing persons case in Balochistan, stating that a proceeding will be launched against the IG FC at an appropriate time.

The court said that IG FC was responsible to present undeclared detainees, adding that all missing persons should be produced before DIG CID now.

The Supreme Court also lamented that no progress was made since day one in this case. The Chief Justice ordered the government to clearly state by when they can produce missing persons.

The bench also directed to take action against officials who were creating hurdles in the case if required.
