Funeral prayers of 3 Pindi tragedy victims offered
Strict security arrangements were made on the occasion to avoid any untoward situation.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - The funeral prayers of three persons, killed in the Rawalpindi incident, have been offered at Liaquat Bagh.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam- Sami (JUI-F) head Maulana Samiul Haq led the prayers. A large number of people attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.
In a brief address, Ulema appealed to participants to maintain calm and disperse peacefully. The bodies were sent to their native areas for burial.
Qari Hanif Jalindhri, Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat chief Maulana Ahmed Ludhinvi and other Ulema were also present on the occasion.
Fighting erupted on Friday in the garrison-city, which neighbours the capital Islamabad, when a procession by Shiite Muslims to mark the most important day of the mourning month of Muharram coincided with a sermon at a nearby Sunni mosque.
The groups attacked each other, TV cameramen and security forces, firing gunshots.
Rawalpindi has been under nearly complete curfew since the incident, which saw a large number of troops deployed there as well as in the southern city of Multan and Chishtian town to keep the peace.
