ISLAMABAD/KARACHI (Online) - The Hindu community, Sunday, celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, with much fervour and gaiety across the country.

Fireworks illuminated the sky in the night in most places as Hindu community distributed sweets and exchanged greetings to mark the festival that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness.

The Hindu community celebrated the return of Ram with fireworks at their homes where women, children and people of all ages donned colourful dresses, lit candles and celebrated their annual festival in different parts of the country including Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur districts.

Meanwhile, media reports said Shiv Temple Society Pakistan President Sham Lal, pundits will lead pooja in the 2,000-year-old Shiv Temple of Gandiyan village in Mansehra on the last day of Diwali.

He said they will offer prayers for solidarity, integrity and progress of Pakistan, the Hindu community and for interfaith harmony in the country.

President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain in his message said Pakistan is committed for the uplift and welfare of the minorities and safeguard their fundamental rights.

The President called for collective efforts to establish a pluralistic society in which every citizen is allowed to participate for the development of the country irrespective of caste and creed.
