Overseas Pakistanis deprived of vote right in LB polls
ECP sources say no province has made legislation for granting voting right to overseas Pakistanis.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The overseas Pakistanis have been ignored once again by the government as they would not be able to cast their votes in the upcoming Local Bodies elections.
According to ECP sources, no province has legislation regarding provision of right to vote to overseas Pakistanis in the LB elections, whereas the ECP cannot give this right without legislation by the provinces.
It is worth mentioning here that before the general elections in May this year, the Supreme Court had directed the government to resolve the issue but the Attorney General submitted federal government’s reply, stating that time and resources were required to grant voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.
