SC declares DG Civil Aviation's appointment void

Says FIA should take action keeping in view the reports of Gen(r) Shahid Niaz and Auditor General.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) The Supreme Court has declared the appointment of Director General Civil Aviation Khalid Chaudhry null and void.
Secretary Civil Aviation Muhammad Ali Gardaizi is of the view that the project of New Islamabad airport started with mismanagement.
Three-member bench headed by chief justice iftikhar Muhammad chaudhry conducted hearing of the case regarding delay of New Islamabad airport and appointment of Civil Aviation Authority and passed his remarks that Shahid Niaz and Auditor General’s reports have exposed tremendous irregularities as both of the reports have held Legan firm responsible for mismanagement.
He added that more than Rs 1.5 billion have been paid to the aforesaid company.
Chief Justice said that feasibility of the project was Rs 13 billion but is regrettable to say that more than Rs 90 billion have spent on the project but the project seems to remain unfulfilled till 2015.
The Supreme Court also said that it should be determined who is responsible for mismanagement of the project; either the government or civil aviation authority.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court declared the appointment of Director General Civil Aviation Khalid Chaudhry as null and void.
