Polling for 41 NA and PA constituencies concludes, vote-count starts
By and large polling remained peaceful, a few incidents of violence, conduct violations reported.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The voting will for 41 national and provincial constituencies concluded at 5pm Thursday.
The process of counting will begin immediately after it and the results will begin pouring in earlier than expected owing to very thin presence of the voters in most constituencies.
Earlier, polling in by-elections on 15 National Assembly and 26 provincial assemblies seats began at 8 am today.
The Election Commission has postponed election for NA-25 Dera Ismail KhanI Khan and Tank owing to security concerns.
Seven thousand six hundred and six polling stations have been established for the by-elections. Of these‚ 3‚080 have been declared normal while 2‚686 sensitive and 1‚840 highly sensitive.
The Election Commission has directed the returning officers to send unofficial results via fax immediately after the vote count and official results by using the computerized result management system.
The Commission has imposed ban on keeping mobile phones during voting procedure. Presiding officers have been directed to ensure secrecy of votes.
Troops have been deployed inside and outside of highly sensitive polling stations.
Commanding army officers deployed at the polling stations have been given powers of First Class Magistrate.
Meanwhile, voting in two polling stations in NA-262 constituency of Chaman was halted after homemade bombs were found in the two polling stations.
According to initial details, the bombs weighed 3 and 20 kilograms.
