Missing persons: SC order action against MI official
SC directs defence secretary to inform police about address of Major Haider within 10 days.
ISLAMABAD (Online) - Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered police to take action against Major Haider of Military Intelligence (MI) allegedly involved in abduction of one Tasif.
The court also directed Defence Secretary to inform the police about the address of Major Haider within ten days.
The order was issued by a two-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad during the course of hearing of missing person Tasif case Tuesday. Tasif is husband of Dr Abida Malik.
Justice Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad remarked police should take action against Major Haider as per law. Tasif be recovered and presented in the court, he further ordered.
At the inception of hearing the court was told that Major Haider and Tasif had partnership in timber business. Wife of Tasif contacted Major Haider after disappearance of her husband and the latter assured her that her husband was safe and soon she would get good news.
Ibrahim Satti advocate counsel for MI had filed application in the court any proceeding can be initiated against army personnel under army act. Police or other institutions are not authorized to arrest serving armed forces personnel or officers.
Deputy Attorney General Tariq Khokhar had filed reply in the SC on behalf of MI wherein it was said that Major Haider and Tasif had certain private matters between them and its responsibility does not rest with MI.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for three weeks.
