Nullah Leh water level reduces

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Water level in Nullah Leh near Katarian has reduced to 21 feet on Tuesday.
Earlier today, sirens were sounded to alert the people living close to Nullah Leh as the water level had reached 24 feet near New Katarian and 19.36 feet under Gawalmandi Bridge.
The local administration has clamped emergency and alerted its all operational wings to be ready to meet with any eventuality.
Meanwhile, seeing the situation of rising level of water in the major rain nullah of the city ‘Leh’ the troops of Pakistan Army have been deployed at the sensitive locations along with both banks of the Leh.
Heavy monsoon downpours with strong winds lashed Islamabad‚ Rawalpindi and adjoining areas this morning.
A spokesperson of met office told national radio that 190 mm of rain has been recorded in Islamabad during the last twenty four hours.
Rain has also inundated low-lying areas of Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile‚ spillways of Rawal dam were opened to discharge the additional water.
Rains submerged main roads of Islamabad and Rawalpindi including Islamabad expressway‚ causing traffic jams.
Monsoon rain, which started at the end of June in Pakistan, has already killed 80 people and left over 81,000 displaced, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), despite improved preparedness plans being in place.
There has been some more rain over the past few days and the fear is that, with more rain forecast for later this month, tributaries of the rivers Ravi and Chenab in Punjab could burst their banks.
