Fakhruddin G Ibrahim resigns as CEC

The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Wednesday tendered his resignation.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has resigned from his office just a day after announcing the result of presidential elections.

 

In a written resignation to President of Pakistan Fakhruddin said he had completed his assignment and would like to quit his office.


He dispatched the copy of the resignation to Prime Minister and Secretary Pakistan Election Commission.

 

In his resignation he stated that new assemblies were in place now after the national elections, and new Parliament should appoint a new Chief Election Commissioner.


Fakhruddin G Ibrahim excused himself for continuation of his job till the upcoming Local Bodies elections in the country.

 

Election Commission officials have confirmed the receiving of Fakhruddin’s formally resignation.

 

Dunya News had already announced the news about the resignation of the CEC and received the copy of the resignation.

 

Earlier, rumours were circulating in the federal capital about his resignation.

 

In must be recalled that different political forces, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami, had raised serious objections over the failure of Election Commission of Pakistan in conducting transparent and fair elections.

 

Ebrahim had also been criticized by the Opposition parties for the recent change in the polling date for the presidential election.

 

Fakhruddin took the oath as CEC on 23 July 2012, after being appointed by the President of Pakistan.
