Lal Masjid case: IHC orders registration of case against Musharraf
The court heard a petition filed by Haroon-ur-Rasheed, son of late Ghazi Abdul Rasheed.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court ordered police to register a case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf over killing of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and his mother in the Lal Masjid operation in 2007.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi issued the order today (Friday) on a petition filed by, Haroon-ur-Rashid, son of late Ghazi Abdul Rasheed, who had requested the court for the registration of an FIR against Musharraf for ordering the military operation.
During case hearing, the court also ordered the police to record the statement of the applicant.
On July 3, 2007, Musharraf had ordered a military operation on the mosque for challenging the writ of the state. Hundreds of students were reportedly killed in the operation.
The Lal Masjid commission report had also held former president Pervez Musharraf, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz and his political allies, responsible for the 2007 operation.
