Protests against loadshedding continue

Citizens irked by loadshedding and water shortage took to streets in various cities.

 

FAISALABAD/MIRPUR (Online) - Residents of Faisalbad staged a protest at Samandari Road against long power and gas outages.


The violent protesters started throwing stones on vehicles and other goods.


In reaction, police also shelled to disperse the protesters.


The protesters said that they were sick and tired of long power outages and demanded smooth supply of electricity.


The protest was ended when police assured the protesters of solution of their problem soon.


Meanwhile, protesters in Kasur blocked the Lahore-Kasur Road for several hours.

Protests in Mirpur Azad Kashmir turned into street violence all over the city.


Mobs took to streets Monday morning and paralyzed the whole city against power outages reaching 10 to 18 hours a day.


Dozens of people were injured when protesters marching towards Mangla Dam turned violent and clashed with police.


Taking notice of the situation, federal officials have asked Water and Power Development Authority to exempt Mirpur district from the load-shedding.


Pakistan has been facing a spiraling power crisis with officials themselves accepting up to 18 hours power outages in rural areas while nine to 14 hours outages in urban parts of the country.
