Traffic police strictly check vehicle fitness after Gujrat incident

So far, 193 cases have been registered against the negligent drivers.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – In a major crackdown to ensure public safety, the traffic police in Punjab are strictly checking vehicle cylinders and fitness certificates.
The step was taken in the wake of Gujrat school van tragedy in which 17 children and a teacher died when the van caught fire near Mungowal last Saturday.
According to a directive issued to all district police officers by the provincial police chief, traffic police have been directed to strictly check cans fitted in vehicles instead of regular fuel tanks.
The police have also been directed to act against illegal filling stations and decanting.
In the recent crackdown, dozens of people have been arrested and 193 cases have been registered against the negligent drivers.
