Kayani in Karachi to finalise poll security

COAS says comprehensive security plan has been prepared to ensure peace during polls.
KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Ashraf Kayani Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting here to finalise the security plan during the polls.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Interior Sindh, Election Commission officials and high-ups of security agencies.
The COAs was given briefing on the security plan.
He directed all the authorities concerned to ensure that the security plan is executed in letter and spirit.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Director General ISPR Gen Asim Bajwa said the COAS had reviewed the security situation in Balochistan and Sindh, especially in Karachi.
I,40,000 personnel of Rangers and other security agencies would perform security duty, while 20,000 Pak Army personnel would serve as rapid response force, he said.
Major General Asim said 10,000 army men and 49,000 security personnel would be deployed in Karachi.
However, he said no army personnel would be posted inside any polling station.
“The date for withdrawal of the troops will be decided after May12,” he said.
