Selection of caretaker PM: EC meeting underway

Today is last day for selection of caretaker prime minister.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan has been started in Islamabad under the chair of Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim to select the caretaker PM.
On Saturday, the Election Commission meeting for naming a caretaker Prime Minister ended without reaching any decision.
The Commission’s member from Sindh, Roshan Isani, could not reach Islamabad during the day time. Officials said the meeting was adjourned till today (Sunday) as the Chief Election Commissioner was not feeling well.
Secretary Commission, Ishtiaq Ahmad, told newsmen in Islamabad that there is no pressure on taking decision on caretaker PM. He also denied reports that the Sindh EC member had some differences.
The commission’s member Justice Riaz Kayani said during the meeting that the ECP reviewed proposed candidates for the interim prime minister slot.
The commission, under the constitutional provisions, had 48 hours to agree on a candidate after the eight-member parliamentary committee failed to reach a consensus despite holding three meetings on consecutive days.
The ECP has to choose from the four nominees put forward by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The PPP had proposed the names of Dr Ishrat Husain and Justice (retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso. PML-N’s nominees are Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Rasool Bux Paliejo.
