The lawyers will boycott court proceedings and observe March 9 (today) as a black day.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The lawyers on Saturday marked the sixth anniversary of the sacking of chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by former president Pervez Musharraf on March 9, 2007.

The lawyers boycotted court proceedings and observed March 9 (today) as a black day across the country.

According to details, black flags were hoisted in bar rooms while several resolutions, expressing solidarity with CJP have been passed.

One of the members of the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) said that black day is being observed as Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was unconstitutionally deposed on this day in 2007. “However, he never bowed before the unconstitutional decision of the dictator, former president Pervez Musharraf,” added another lawyer.

The SBC chairman Muhammad Asim termed the current independent judiciary an outcome of the lawyers’ struggle.
