Violent protests against rigging in GB polls continue
Several political parties continued protest against rigging in elections for Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly after announcement of official results. At least twelve persons were injured in Skardu as PPP and PML-N workers clashed, Dunya News reported Sunday.Protesters, thousands in number, including women held a demonstration outside Supreme Appellate Court against rigging in polls for Gilgits constituencies 1, 2 and 3. The demonstrators claimed that the administration was not taking any action despite being provided with the evidences of rigging. The Karakoram highway and Gilgit city remained blocked on third consecutive day due to the protests whereas riots also continued across the city. On the other hand, supporters of Pakistan Peoples Partys successful candidate Wazir Shakeel organized a rally in Skardu this afternoon. When the rally arrived in Hussainabad, a PML-Ns stronghold, public got intimidated by the slogans of the participants of the rally and pelted stones on the cars. The windowpanes of two buses and four cars were smashed and twelve persons were injured due to the stoning. Police fired bullets in the air and fired teargas shells to take control of the situation. Tension still prevails in the area due to the incident.
