700 alleged militants arrested over terror links: AG tells SC

ISLAMABAD (AP) Attorney General Irfan Qadri  told the apex court that that security agencies were holding at least 700 alleged militants indefinitely without trial in connection with the “war on terror

 

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing Adiala jail s missing prisoners case on Thursday. 

 

Irfan Qadri told the Supreme Court that the suspects are being held in internment centers in the country s semiautonomous tribal region along the Afghan border.

 

He said the suspects will be held until the military concludes operations against the militants in the tribal region, after which it will be determined whether they can be tried in court.

 

Attorney General justified the detention under a law passed in 2011 known as the Actions (in Aid of Civil Power) Regulations.

 

The case hearing has been adjourned till 28th of this month.
