Release missing prisoners if there is no evidence: CJP

The CJP had given the concerned authorities one-day deadline to resolve the matter.

 

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday remarked that no person can be kept in detention without any evidence.

 

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of Adiala jail’s missing prisoners case.

 

Raja Irshad, counsel of Inter-Services Agency (ISI) informed bench that all the accused were sent to detention centers according to the law.

 

On his, the Chief Justice said that fair trial and fundamental rights clauses should be eliminated and if left to their discretion, there would be no courts in the country.

 

The prisoners are at detention centre since January, 2012 without any proof, he added.

 

Attorney General Irfan Qadir told court session of the Review Board will be summoned within next ten days to review the matter.

 

Further, the bench remarked that either bring evidence against the missing prisoners or release them.
