Judges' appointment case: SC adjourns hearing

A five-member bench of SC led by Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case.
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned hearing of contempt of court plea and government review petition in appointment of judges in Islamabad High Court (IHC) for indefinite period.
Nadim Ahmad advocate had filed contempt of court petition against the President, Prime Minister (PM) and law minister on non issuance of notification in respect of appointment of judges in IHC.
A five-member bench of SC led by Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case. He remarked both the petitions had gone in-fructuous due to issuance of notification on judges appointment.
Abdul Rauf advocate told the court that Akram Sheikh counsel for the petitioner Nadim Ahmad advocate had filed application seeking adjournment of the case.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked what was need of seeking adjournment now as the applications had become ineffective due to issuance of judges appointment notification.
Attorney General (AG) Irfan Qadir prayed the court the review petition be kept pending till the court’s detailed judgment comes. Review petition was filed on short order so that contempt of court does not take place, he added.
