Case registered against Qadri, associates

TMQ has also approached the court and requested to take action against the federal government.


ISLAMABAD: Federal police has registered a case against Dr Tahir ul Qadri and his 21 associates under the charges of disrupting official work, robbery, use of contraband arms, attempt to murder, inciting the people and several other sections.

 

The case has been registered on the statement of SHO Bahra Kahu, inspector Mehboob who was injured during the demonstrations staged by workers of Tehreek-e-Minhaj ul Quran (TMQ).

 

Tahirul Qadri has rejected the case terming it a pressure tactics on the part of government. He said that he did not accept any such proceedings by police and it is all being done on the bidding of interior minister Rehman Malik.

 

He said that TMQ had filed application in the same police station seeking registration of case against Interior Minister Rehman Malik but the police had refused to register the case.

 

Therefore, TMQ has approached the court in this connection hoping court will provide relief to them at every cost, he underlined.

 

It may be recalled that exchange of firing had taken place between police and participants of long march on Tuesday when the demonstrators had crossed barricades put up by police and were heading towards D-Chowk.

 

The police fired tear gas shells and resorted to aerial firing to disperse them. In retaliation the demonstrators pelted stones on the police. Consequently SHO Bahra Kahu, inspector Mehboob, telephone operator of SP city Capt ® Ilyas and other 3 police cops were injured. The case has been sealed.
