Cough syrup death toll rises to 34
Fifteen medical stores have been sealed for selling intoxicated cough syrup.
GUJRANWALA: The death toll due to consumption of tainted cough syrup has risen to 34 within five days in Gujranwala.
Four people who recently died after consuming syrup belonged to Monki area of Gujranwala.
Several teams of the district administration, Health Department and the police sealed 15 medical stores for selling intoxicated cough syrup. Under instructions from Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the district administration has launched a crackdown against medical stores selling spurious medicines.
Meanwhile, four people also lost their lives after taking intoxicated cough syrup in Kasur and Toba Tek Singh.
