Contempt law be used judiciously: Asma
Asma Jehangir says excessive exercise of Contempt of Court Law would lead to loss of its utility.
LAHORE: Former President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jahangir has said that Altaf Hussain should reply to the contempt of court notice.
Talking to media in Lahore High Court, Asma Jahangir was of the view that everyone should respect the courts.
However, she noted that the excessive exercise of Contempt of Court Law would lead to loss of its utility. Jahangir added that judges should use the contempt of court law judiciously and that remarks should not be made which caused turmoil in the country.
She further said that there is a need to review Judicial Policy. She said that lawyers were in favor of speedy delivery of justice but they would not allow the dismissal of cases on the pretext of the recently approved National Judicial Policy.
On the occasion, President SCBA, Asrar-ul-Haq said that the general elections will be held on time, however, the target of disposing of the cases with relevance to Judicial Policy cannot be met in accordance with the deadline.
