Lawyers in different cities have boycotted court proceedings.

LAHORE: A partial strike is being observed in different cities on Thursday to protest against the order given by the National Judicial Reforms Policy Making Committee (NJRPMC).

Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) announced strike after NJRPMC ordered the entire district courts of the country to resolve all the pending cases by December 31, 2012.

In response, a partial strike is being observed in Sindh High Court (SHC) and city court, however, Malir Bar was observing complete strike.

In Lahore and Faisalabad, lawyers boycotted courts to protest against NJRPMC’s deadlines.

The PBC executive committee was of the view that the deadline fixed by the NJPMC for disposal of pending cases was not feasible and courts being under tremendous pressure were compelled to speed up the disposal of cases by adopting short cuts prejudice to the basic requirements of dispensation of justice.

The disposal of cases on technical grounds and that too with undue haste was in violation of Article 10-A of the constitution.
